Tony Todaro is the owner and Managing Director of Clevertronics, an Australian manufacturer of Emergency Lighting, employing some 135 people in Australia.
He has been a Director of Lighting Council Australia Limited since its incorporation in 2007. Prior to its incorporation, when Lighting Council was a Division of AEEMA; Tony was also a member of the Executive Board of that Division from 2003.
Tony, through his position as Chairman, aims to:
- Continue to raise the profile and the importance in Australia of quality, and energy efficient lighting products and design;
- Position Lighting Council to represent members well in the changing environment of connected lighting and smart controls;
- Continue to input into government policy and legislation, and Australian Standards; and
- Input into policy and procedures which targets non-compliant and unsafe lighting products in the Australian market.
Malcolm Lee co-founded Industrial Lighting Solutions in 2006 and is the current Managing Director and joint venture partner of Dialight ILS Australia, a world leader in Industrial and Hazardous Area LED lighting. Previous to Dialight, Malcolm worked as a Business Development Manager for prominent lighting firms Thorn Lighting, Versalux Lighting and Eye Lighting.
Malcolm is married with two grown sons, has Electrical trade qualifications, Certificate IV in Illumination Engineering, is a Technician member of the Illumination Engineers Society of Australia and a dedicated CrossFit participant. Malcolm also played State League Level Basketball in his younger days.
Dialight ILS Australia forms part of the wider Dialight group which is listed on the London stock exchange, with financial headquarters in London, operational headquarters in New Jersey USA, and regional offices in Perth Australia, Singapore, Copenhagen Denmark, Houston Texas, Dubai UAE and Sao Paulo Brazil.
Mr Lee will complement Lighting Council Australia’s already diverse Board, with a focus on industrial lighting from an international perspective. He is already a very active member, providing market intelligence and volunteering his time to advocate on behalf of the industry.
Khaled Khaled is the Managing Director of the Zumtobel Group – Pacific and a Director of Lighting Council Australia. He has spent over 17 years in the lighting industry occupying different positions, including Head of Marketing, Sales Director, CEO and Head of Sales for ASEAN-Pacific region. Khaled has had the opportunity to work for a number of key lighting players, such as OSRAM Gmbh, LEDVANCE, Sylvania Lighting International and most recently Zumtobel Group.
Khaled has a Bachelor degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering with honours from the University of Canterbury (NZ) as well as Masters in International Business & Law from the University of Sydney. Khaled was part of Siemens talent development and emerging leaders programs for over 5 years. Khaled has had the opportunity to participate in Advanced General Management Program offered by JOHNSON Cornell University USA.
Through his experience and education, Khaled has developed strong commercial sense, with specific expertise in change management.
As the Country Manager for Philips Lighting Australia and New Zealand, a Director of Lighting Council Australia and with over 30 years’ experience in the electrical industry, David Gardner is focussed on building on the current success of the business to further drive the future direction of Philips Lighting.
David has a passion for driving innovation throughout the lighting and electrical industry and to take light beyond illumination to improve businesses, organisations, cities and people’s lives. Building on a 125 years heritage of innovation, at Philips Lighting, he is passionate about making the world healthier and more sustainable, delivering on the Philips’ vision to improve three billion lives a year by 2025 and are now leading the way in intelligent lighting systems.
Since commencing at Beacon Lighting in 1969 and then purchasing the company in 1975, Mr Robinson has been the major shareholder and currently holds the position of Executive Chairman of Beacon Lighting since July 2013. In 2007 and again in 2010 Beacon Lighting was awarded The Age, Dun and Bradstreet, Victoria Business of the Year Award. Beacon Lighting was listed on ASX in April 2014 and now has over 100 stores and sells into 26 different countries through its International Business.
Additionally, Mr Robinson is a Director of the Lighting Council Australia, and a current Director and past President of the Large Format Retailer Association (2001 to 2016). Beacon Lighting is also celebrating 50 years of business in the lighting industry in 2017.
Ariel Avner was an original entrepreneur of this small start-up and remains the Managing Director. From its inception, Azoogi has consistently achieved year on year growth and continue to expand their team. Ariel was a joint winner of the 2019 Young Achievement Award which shows his consistent commitment to a career in the lighting sector.
From 1989 – 2014, Ben worked for Pierlite in various roles from the State Manager of NSW from 1995 – 1997, National Sales Manager from 1997 – 1999, National Sales and Marketing Manager from 1999 – 2002, General Manager of Pierlite from 2002 – 2010, Executive General Manager and Director of Pierlite from 2010 – 2014, Executive General Manager of Legend Corporation from 2019 – 2021 and finally Executive General Manager of Energetic Lighting Australia from 2022 till 2024.
In August 2024, Ben became the Managing Director of LEDVANCE Australia. Ben also took home the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication and many years of service to the Australian lighting industry.
Marie and her husband Gino launched The Montauk Lighting Co. in 2016, taking inspiration from the architecture of New York City, specifically Long Island. Operating out of Perth in WA, they specialise in interior lighting for the residential and commercial sectors – helping clients source both beautiful and functional feature lighting.
Before launching their own business Marie had a long career as a commercial lawyer, having completed a Master of Laws from the University of Western Australia and Advanced Negotiation Workshops at Harvard University.
Marie and her company were also the joint winners of the 2023 Overall Innovation Award.
